Mrs. Nelson, widow of the late Fred Nelson, passed quietly away at her home in this village at ten o'clock Christmas morning, having been confined to her bed only two weeks. Miss Laura Eldred was born in this township Oct. 22, 1838, and her entire life had been spent in this vicinity. She was married to Mr. Nelson about fifty years ago, and to them one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Mather, of Cadillac was born. For many years Mrs. Nelson had been a faithful member of the M. E. church, the Woman's Home Missionary
Society and the Woman's Relief Corps. She was also an earnest W. C. T. U. worker during the existance of that organization, and was a woman greatly beloved by all who knew her. She is survived by five sisters, Mrs. M. G. Higgins of this place, Mrs. Eliza Warner of Saginaw, Mrs. Hannah Ballou of Detroit, and Mesdames Kate Ashley and Abbie Hewitt, both of Allegan. The funeral was held from her late home at two o'clock yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H. L. Potter and her remains were laid to rest in Mountain Home cemetery by the side of those of her husband. Those who attended the funeral from away were Mr. and Mrs. James Mather of Cadillac, Mesdames Abbie Hewitt and Julia Eldred and the Misses Mable, Madge and Bessie Eldred of Allegan and Mr. and Mrs. H. Ashley of Watson.
