Stena Amalie Anderson was born in Hestlund, Rinkobing Amt, Denmark on 22 Jul 1879 the fifth child to Anders Christensen and Elise Johanne Petersen. The name on her Danish birth record is Kirstine Amalie Kristensen and it identifies her father as Anders Kristensen Stubkjer Nedergaard. By 1881 her father had died reportedly while saving the life of Christian IX of Denmark and the family emigrated from Hestlund, Denmark to Concord, Massachusetts, to which her mother's half-sister Jensine Tygesen Anderson and family had previously emigrated in the 1870's. Stena's oldest brother Peter drowned in Concord in 1885 and in 1888 when Stena was age 9 her mother died and she and her sister Sena were raised by her older cousin, Rev. Jens Peter Anderson of Concord, Massachusetts. Both Stena and her sister Sena attended the Boston YWCA School for Domestics. While in Concord, Stena made the acquaintance of the writer Margaret Sidney (Mrs. Margaret Lothrop), her Sunday school teacher and was given a personalized copy of the "Five Little Peppers and How They Grew." By 1901 Stena Anderson has moved to Evanston, Illinois and there makes the acquaintance John Jetmundsen Wang, whom she marries on 2 Jun 1905 in Evanston, Illinois, with her cousin Rev. Jens Peter Anderson presiding. From the marriage there are three children, Harold Sigurd born in 1906, Grace Sigrid in 1909 and Curtis Earl in 1914. Stena Anderson died on 26 Nov 1962 in Chicago, Illinois and was buried on 29 Nov 1962 at the Fairview Memorial Cemetery in Northlake, Illinois beside her husband who predeceased her.
