September 23, 1859, Buncombe County, North Carolina, Married Sarah Ann Drake, daughter of James Drake and Keziah "Kizia" Champion.
Served in the Confederate army during the War of Northern Aggression. His wife's brothers fought for the other side, but as we know, life was hard and sides not so easily drawn.
Benjamin was one of the charter members of Locust Grove Baptist Church, January 18, 1891. He was also one of their two first deacons since he was already ordained as one from Gabriel's Creek Baptist Church. He is buried in the church cemetery, in the upper corner near the gate. Many more generations of his descendants are buried here as well.
His obituary from a Madison County, NC newspaper dated September 28, 1928 indicated he was "widely known in that area of the state, as he had been involved in politics before his retirement". I have not yet found what type of politics or what office(s) he may have held. He had an obituary that made the front page of the Asheville Citizen-Times that week, also citing his involvement in politics.
Their known children:
William Marion Buckner
Velda Rebecca Buckner (Allman)
Robert Lee Buckner
Elyotte Frank Buckner
Harriett Buckner (Buckner)
James Buckner
Jacob Garland Buckner
Henry Buckner
