J. W. McCAFFREE, 78, CEDAR FALLS, DIES AT HIS HOME
Son of First White Settler in Bremer County; Rites Monday Afternoon.

Cedar Falls—John Wesley McCaffree, 78, for 3S years a resident of Cedar Falls and vicinity, died at 5:30 p. m. Saturday at his home 1923 Waterloo road, following an illness of two years. He had been in bed for about a week.
He was a son of Charles and Cynthia McCaffree. His father was the first white settler in Bremer county.
He was born Aug. 17, 1859, in Sullivan county, Missouri. His father had come to East Janesville in Bremer county in 1845 and moved to Missouri after his marriage.
Lived at Waverly Junction.
Shortly after John Wesley's birth the family came again to Bremer county, settling at Waverly Junction, where John spent his early life. There he joined the United Brethren church, which conducted services in a schoolhouse.
He married Aim Elizabeth Sailor at Waverly, Ia., Oct. 13, 1880. They came to Cedar Falls in 1900. lie worked at one time for the Harris-Cole Woodworking company, which has since gone out of business.
For the past 28 years he had lived at the farm home on Waterloo road. Up to two years ago he bad operated a dairy on his farm.

Widow; Daughters Survive.
Surviving are the widow, two daughters, Miss Pearl McCaffree. At home; and Mrs. Mae Parker, 816 Tremont street: one sister, Mrs. Lestine Sewell, Waverly, and three brothers Lewis, Nickerson, Kan; Owen, Newton, Ia., and Elbert, Lake Mills, Ia.
His parents, three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p. m. Monday at the Dahl chapel by Rev. C. M. Crowell pastor of First Baptist church. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
