William Hogg,Jr was the only child of his parents William Hogg(1743-1770) & his wife Margaret Marshall.
William Hogg, Sr was a Tenant in Nethertown & had a son born 4th January, 1779 and was baptized the 4th of March in the same year. He was named William Hogg, Jr

In Scotland in Midlothian, William was known to be the Carrier of light goods. So he went by that name " William, The Carrier"

William Hogg & Margaret Lumsden in this Parish of Nenthorn, in Berwickshire, Midlothian, Scotland gave their names to be proclaimed in order to marriage 28th April 1779
( Marriage Bans ) cautioner for him was James Brown and for her was Edward Waddie, both of this Parish.

William Hogg and Margaret Lumsden, both of this Parish gave in their names for Proclamation of Banns. John Forsyth "Weaver" in Stow, cautioned for him, for her William Lumsden, her father "Wright" in Plenploth. 22nd June, 1799 after due Proclamation they were married.

William Hogg "The Carrier" & his wife had 12 children.

According to Cousin James Hogg, William Hogg, The Carrier also had a baby boy by another woman & he was named Peter Hogg. This may have been the reason that the family immigrated to America.
