Son of Andrew and Mary (Oaks) Cook. Homer was the husband of Sally Ann Simmons. They were the parents of Minnie (Mrs. Leland Werden), Lucy (Mrs. William Pope), Angie Belle, Carrie Elizabeth, Jessie (Mrs. Percival Pearce), Andrew, and Helen Louisa.

When Homer was about seventeen he fell from a scaffold and injured his feet and an ankle while working on his father's farm. Because of the injury he was unable to do farm work. In the spring of 1859 he began to study law with Ferry and Williams in Waukegan, Illinois. He practiced law in Waukegan, Illinois for many years.

DEAN OF BAR DIES

Attorney Homer Cooke, dean of the Illinois bar, died last night of pneumonia at his Waukegan residence. He would have been 92 years old on Jan. 5 next. He was a friend of both Lincoln and Roosevelt and had known every Illinois governor and every President since Lincoln's time. He was widely known because of his specialization in municipal laws, and had practiced in Waukegan for more than fifty-two years.
