Son of Timothy Cooke and Hepzebeth, nee Oakes. Andrew married Mary Oakes on December 10, 1830, in Stamford, Bennington County, Vermont, USA.

Their children were:

Homer Cook (1832-1923)
Monroe Cook (1833-1912)
Mary Ann Cook Foster (1834-1916)
Zilpah Cook Weagant (1836-1896)
Arthur Cook (1840-1906)
Rodman Cook (1843-1864)
Aurelia Cook (1847-1850)
Lovina Cook Raymond(1850-1915)
Lucy Cook Clough (1852-1938)

In 1840 Andrew and Mary said goodbye to their friends in Vermont and made their way overland to Albany, New York. From there they traveled by flat boat on the Erie Canal across the state of New York. From Buffalo, New York, they traveled by ship across Lake Erie, Lake Huron and Lake Michigan to Chicago, Illinois. Then from Chicago they went by wagon to Wauconda, Illinois. Here he purchased 380 acres of land at $1.25 per acre on the north side of Wauconda.

A log cabin was erected before clearing the land. Early in 1850 he began construction on a rural greek revival style farm house, making the bricks from the clay and limestone of the nearby area. The house was built in three stages, as seen by the three colors of the brick, fired at different temperatures at different times in his kiln.

Over the years Andrew harvested good crops and in the course of time his possesions had so accumulated that he was numbered among the wealthy citizens of the community.

In political affairs he was a stalwart Republican. He was honored with many offices of trust, having served repeatedly as School Director, School Trustee, Road Commissioner, Supervisor, Town Trustee and Treasurer. The first session of the Board of Trustees was held in his house. His fidelity to duty made him an efficient officer, which fact is indicated by his many years in public life.

OBITUARY (From the Nunda Herald, 9 January 1885)

Another pioneer gone. Mr. Andrew Cook passed out of this world with the old year, Dec. 31st, 1884, at the ripe old age of 83 yrs. and after living the past 24 years right here in our midst he will be mourned by all who knew him, as a friend and benefactor. He was married at Stamford, Vt. (his birth place) to Miss Mary Oaks, and came to Wauconda in 1840 and has always been looked up to as an advisor on almost any topic, and his advice has never been found at fault. Mrs. Cook, although over 75 years old is still able to do her own work.
