A PIONEER DIED – Mrs. Jemima Mortimer was Buried on Sunday Last, at Brant

On Friday last, October 28, Mrs. Jemima Mortimer died at the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Harvey Yule, at the advanced age of seventy-three years. Some four months ago, the venerable old lady sustained a severe stroke of apoplexy, and though she rallied some from its effects at first, the stroke was fatal, and she yielded up her life on the above named date.

Mrs. Mortimer was born at Woolshire, England on the 15th of September 1825, her husband being Emanuel Mortimer of the same place. They came to America in 1844, locating in New York, where they remained until 1846, and then came to Wisconsin and settled in Dodge Co. They resided in this section of the state until 1854, when they moved to Chilton town, where her husband died in 1877. She was buried at Brant, on Sunday last, being laid to rest beside her husband, in the Portland cemetery.

Mrs. Mortimer was a true and noble woman, and one whose strong character and sterling worth have been transmitted to her children, seven of whom survive and mourn the death of a good mother: Allen, William, George and Albert , her sons, and Mesdames John Davis, Harvey Yule and O. H. Luehrs, her daughters.

The services were conducted by Rev. James, pastor of the M. E. Church of Brant of which Mrs. Mortimer was a devout member and were very impressive.
