Graveside services are to be held at 2 p.m. Friday at New Salem Cemetery in the Selfs Community with Rev. J.M. Beshirs officiating. He will lie in repose at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove during normal business hours.
He was born Oct. 20, 1916, to parents Joseph Alonzo and Minerva Shepherd in Paris. He married Mary C. Thornton Dec. 20, 1953, in Durant, Okla. She passed away Dec. 11, 2002. He was a farmer and he also enjoyed working in his garden.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and son, Billy Shepherd, Feb. 11, 2000.
He is survived by children, Marie Wilhite of Hewitt; Mary Bridgers of Honey Grove; Jo Ann Harviston of the Selfs community; Barbara Mathis of Paris; James Shepherd of Calera, Okla. and Micky Shepherd of the Selfs community; many grandchildren; and great- and great-great-grandchildren.
