Funeral services for Mrs. George Lehr, 92, who died at St. Michael's hospital on Wednesday afternoon, January 13, after an illness of one day, were held Friday at the Tyndall Baptist Church. The Rev. David Zimmerman, pastor of the church, officiated and burial was made in the Tyndall cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert, Henry and Rubin Schlechter, Emmanuel Hiller, John R. Balzar and Emmanuel Balzar. Carolina Schlechter, youngest daughter of Gottfried and Elizabeth (Hoehn) Schlechter, was born in Bessarabian, South Russia on May 4, 1872.

Gottfried and Elizabeth (Hoehn) Schlechter and their seven children arrived at New York from Bremen, Germany on November 8, 1879 aboard the Neckar and settled six miles northwest of Scotland.

In 1892 Caroline joined the Congregational church, near Scotland. She was married to George Lehr on November 9, 1893. Seven children were born to this union, of whom five survive her, as follows: Arthur William of Newark, Ohio; Hulda, Mrs. George B. Lubbers, Tyndall; Esther, Mrs. George A. Lang, Sioux Falls; Ruth, Mrs. Dick J. Ortland, Detroit, Michigan; and Martha, Mrs. Arthur W. Rummel, Mount Clemens, Michigan. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Her husband died in May 8, 1946; son Robert Lehr died June 9, 1957 and infant son Roland died in 1900. Mrs. Lehr joined the Baptist church of Tyndall in 1923 and was an active member of the Missionary Society, having served as secretary for many years. Despite her age, she had been active and able to sit in her chair up to the day she went to the hospital.
