"ELDERLY MOTHER LAID TO REST Mrs. Addie Chapin, 75, Had Been Ill Long Time-Funeral Services Wednesday
Mrs. Addie Chapin, 75, mother of seven children and beloved and respected resident of Oberlin, passed in her final reward Monday evening at six o'clock in the home of her only son, Lyle Chapin.
Three years ago Mrs. Chapin, an energetic and active person by nature, began suffering ill health. It was almost two years ago that she sold her fine home on north East avenue to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Johnson and moved to the Lyle Chapin home where she had been lovingly cared for since by her daughter-in-law and daughters.
For the past six months she was able to spend part of each day sitting in a wheelchair and it was just a week ago she slipped into a coma from which she never awakened.
Especially fond of flowers, gardening was her hobby and she spent many hours tending to the floweres in her yard. She loved little children and her tender ministrations to them reaped their adoration in return.
Born in Marshalltown, Iowa, September 9, 1874, Addie Childson moved with her parents to Decatur community at a very young age and had lived most of her life in the community.
September 13, 1891 she became the bride of Fremont Chapin and the couple made their home on a farm. Her husband preceded her in death in September of 1925 and the family moved into Oberlin in the year 1930.
Although Mrs. Chapin had been ill for considerable length of time, she did not complain of any ill comforts. A Devout member of the Federated Church of Oberlin she attended church services there until her imparied health prevented her presence. The sweet disposition she continually radiated attracted friends easily and she was loved by all.
Survivors are the only son, Lyle Chapin of Oberlin; six daughters, Lola Cartwright of Denver, Arlene Rowley of Norton, Rhea Adams of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Verna Cody, Beula Haas and Letha Pester all of Oberlin, a step-son, Willie Chapin of Fayettesville, Arkansas; three brothers, Roy Chilson of Oberlin, Earl Chilson of Utah and Elbert Chilson of Washington state; one sister, Mrs. Bessie Magner of Minnesota; other relatives and many friends.
Services were held yesterday afternoon at two o-clock in the Federated Church of Oberlin with interment in the Oberlin cemetery."
