Rhea Adams, 89, formerly of Humboldt, Kansas, passed away on August 10, 2005 in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Rhea was born January 2, 1916 in Decatur County, Kansas, the daughter of Fremont and Addie Belle (Chilson) Chapin.

Her parents, as well as her grandparents, were early settlers of Decatur County. She was the youngest of seven children and graduated from Decatur County High School in the Class of 1936.

On October 9, 1936 she became the bride of Jerrold DeWitt Adams. DeWitt passed away February 22, 1990.

The young couple moved to Oklahoma. During World War II, Rhea returned to Oberlin with her young son and worked in her brother's café, while DeWitt served in the Pacific. When DeWitt returned, the couple returned to Oklahoma. They later moved to Illinois and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. When DeWitt retired they moved to Humboldt, Kansas. (DeWitt's family were also early residents of Allen County).

They became active members of the First Christian Church in Humboldt.

Rhea remained in Humboldt until 1999, when she moved East to be closer to her children.

She is survived by her son, Jerrold Adams and wife Kathy of Florida; her daughter, Cheryl Picken and husband Hank of Georgia; grandchildren, Susan and John Hough of Maryland, Christine and Matt Musal of Florida, Bradley and Tara Adams of New Jersey; and great-grandchildren, Joshua Hough and Meghan and James Adams.

Services will be held Friday, August 19th, 2005 at the First Christian Church in Humboldt, Kansas with Pastor Tim Scott officiating. Burial will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, Allen County, Kansas.

Memorials in her name may be made to First Christian Church in Humboldt and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
