Obituary:
MRS. NANCY DAVIS
Nancy J. Davis (Dunlap) was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, February 27, 1827, and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. W. Batchelder, in Batchtown, on December 15, 1903. Age 76 years, nine months and 21 days.
Her childhood days were spent in her native state where she was married to James E. Davis at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, January 27, 1847. Seven years of their married life were spent in that state, then in 1854 they moved to Wisconsin where they resided for some time then came to Calhoun County where she remained until death.
Her husband preceded her to their heavenly home 21 years ago. Seven children, one son and six daughters, were born to them. This son and three daughters have been gathered to the bosom of their Heavenly Father.
Three daughters remain to mourn the death of an affectionate mother. They are Mrs. Mary J. Fowler, Mrs. Orpha Watson and Mrs. Marie L. Batchelder.
In her girlhood days she united with the M.E. Church and remained a loyal member and faithful Christian during her entire life.
She was of a cheerful disposition and endured her many afflictions patiently. She had suffered continuously for the last seven years of her life with rheumatism. During six years of the time she was very feeble and the year just past was in a helpless condition.
Through all her years of suffering she has borne her cross with remarkable Christian fortitude, always prayerful, faithful and trusting in implicit faith in her Savior. Her agreeable and patient ways (have won) her a host of friends, those who knew her best, loved her most and now, "after life's that fitful fever, she sleeps well."
The funeral services were conducted at the home by Rev. English, pastor of the Batchtown M.E. church, Thursday, December 17, at 10:00 AM after which the remains were buried beside the departed husband in the Dixon Cemetery one mile north of Gilead. To the bereaved ones we extend our sincere sympathy.
