MISHAWAKA - Dorothy June Gindelberger, 101, of Mishawaka, passed away in her residence on Friday, October 22, 2010. Dorothy was born in Kewanna, Indiana, on June 17th, 1909, to the late Guy and Ethel (Hall) Smith. On February 14th, 1942, Dorothy married Francis Wayne Gindelberger in South Bend, Indiana. Wayne preceded her in death, passing away in May 1990. Surviving are her children, Dr. Donald W. (Joan) Gindelberger of Mishawaka, Edward B. (Eleanor) Gindelberger of Ohio and Thomas (Stephanie) Cripe of Elkhart, Indiana. Dorothy is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Dorothy was employed for many years as a billing clerk with I&M Electric. She then became a homemaker, a job she truly loved. She enjoyed sewing, planting and caring for plants and flowers with her "green thumb," reading, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was the eldest member of the Osceola United Methodist Church in Osceola for over 50 years. Through the church, Dorothy belonged to the Women's Society and the Mothers Singers, where she and other ladies from the church would travel and sing in the area. In her memory, the family's preferred memorial is the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, or the Osceola United Methodist Church.
