The information presented here is for James Johnson, son of Peter Johnson and Mary "Polly" Phillips Johnson. This James Johnson was most likely a Private from Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. The gravestone, attributed to this James Johnson, shows Lt. Col. James Johnston.

James Johnson, born near Pittsburg, Allegheny County, was a son of Peter Johnson and Mary "Polly" Phillips Johnson. He had six siblings.

James Johnson married Elizabeth Lindsey/Lindsay on October 13, 1782 near Madison, Jefferson, Indiana or October 30, 1783 in Pennsylvania. They had fourteen children.

-----
NOTES:
Other possible birth years: 1750, 1754, 1756
Other possible death years: 1833, 1835
**Both believed to be possible death years for Elizabeth Lindsay Johnson, Jame Johnson's wife.

Some researchers suggest James Johnson was born near Antrim, Cumberland, Pennsylvania, but I think this birthplace is for the Lt. Col. James Johnston, as he lived and died in that area of Pennsylvania.
**Antrim is now in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

Gravestone shows:

One of the gravestones found is that of James Johnson showing:

Death: September 8, 1833
Jackman's Cemetery near St. Francisville, Lawrence County, Illinois.
Service and additional facts:
Lt. Col, 1st Bn, Cumberland County, PA, Militia
**Notice the birth and death years— conflict with the dates on the gravestone.
**The rank and service were for Lt. Col. James Johnston (1742 - 1817) - Find a Grave Memorial #36606460.
**This James Johnson is believed to have been a Private, having served from Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
