Louis J. Bloom, 75, a resident of Altona since 1900 and a retired B. & O. car inspector, died Monday at 2:25 a.m. at the Butler Convalescent home. He had suffered a stroke of paralysis Sept. 17, 1948, and was a patient in Sacred Heart hospital, Garrett, for a long time before being taken to the Convalescent home April 21, 1951.
The body was taken to the McKee funeral home, where it will remain until final rites Wednesday at 8 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic church, Garrett. The Rev. Leon Pisula will officiate and burial will follow in Calvary cemetery. The Holy Name society will recite the rosary at the funeral home Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Bloom was born Sept. 8, 1876, in Green township, Noble county, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bloom. He came to Altona in 1900 to work for the B. & O. and in that same year was married to Josephine Elizabeth Neubauer. She died in 1926.
Surviving are two sons, Joseph and Louis C., both of Altona; three brothers, Martin of 315 West Edgerton street, Garrett, Stephen of Columbia City and Frank of Sacred Heart home, Avilla; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Alter of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Francis Schenher of Ege; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Bloom was a member of St. Joseph's church and the Carman's union.
