Myrtle E. Dowell, 99, formerly of Remington died at 9:30 p.m. Sunday at the Rensselaer Care Center where she had resided since 1993.
She was born in Chicago on Nov. 4, 1895, and moved to Remington in 1900 as a child.
She was educated in Remington High School and married Lonnie E. Dowell on Jan. 1, 1922. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Remington United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star and the America Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Henry of Bensenville, Ill., and Shirley Hoeferlin of Rensselaer; one son, William (Lois) Dowell of Remington, 17 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Wednesday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m.to noon at the Stitz Funeral Home in Remington. The funeral Service is at noon at the funeral home with Rev. Ken Walker officiating. Burial follows in the Remington Cemetery.
