Robert "Bob" Duane Steiner, 79, of Rothsay, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at his home.

He was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Fergus Falls, the son of Charles and Alma (Wallin) Steiner of Andrea Township, rural Foxhome. He was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church in Rothsay.

Bob attended country school, District 24, in Akron Township and the Morris Ag School.

He served as a PFC from 1952 to 1954, with the Marine Corps during the Korean War, receiving his basic training in San Diego, Calif., and then serving as an MP in Hawaii and Japan.

On May 9, 1952, he married Dorothy Murphy at Foxhome Lutheran Church. Bob spent his life farming, first with his father, Uncle Albert, and Cousin Jim, then with his brother, Daryl (and family), which included dairy farming until 1962, and sugar beets starting in 1967.

In 1981 Bob focused on farming with his sons, Jerry and Jeff.

He was a member of Foxhome Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, served on the Akron Township Board as a supervisor, and was a member of the Rothsay American Legion and the Fergus Falls Eagles Club.

Bob enjoyed motorcycling, caring for his livestock and other animals, loved "good" music and dancing, and relaxing at Deer Lake.

His more recent pastimes were spending time on the farm and visiting with friends at the Rothsay Truck Stop "Mobil."

Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Daryl, and Calvin (as a toddler); his sister, Alda Mae Anderson; and his grandson, David Gerald Steiner.
