Death Of Mrs. J. R. Martin.
Just as the sun went down on April 25th, 1925, the death Angel visited the home of J. R. Martin of Stockton, Va., and took his beloved wife.
The deceased was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Stultz, and was born April 7, 1887, at Dyers Store, Va.
Her father and mother preceded her to the grave in her infancy, and she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Geo. W. Shackelford of Irisburg, Va.
She had been in delicate health several months and everything that a devoted and loving husband and the watchful skill of our most popular physicians was done to stay and thwart the disease, cancer of the stomach, but in vain. She was and hopeful of her recovery to the last.
She had a wide and prominent relationship in this and the surrounding counties, her father coming from a numerous branch of the Stultz and Taylor families, and her mother being a daughter of the late William G. Shackelford, and the one consolation we have in her death is that she is now united with her father, mother, brothers and sisters that she never knew on earth.
She is survived by four small children as follows: Pearl, Harriet, Curtis and Ann, and the following brothers and sisters: James L. and Frank B. Stultz of Martinsville, Louis G. and Holman Stultz of Roanoke, also Harry T. Stultz of Hampton, and Mesdames Joe Pace and C. S. Austin of Martinsville and W. F. Motley of Irisburg.
On May 9, 1914, she was married to J. R. Martin, one of Henry County's prominent young men who survived her only four days and met the most tragical death that has been known in years.
The pall bearers were: Messrs Leslie Turner, Roy Turner, R. P. Fagg, J. D. Holland, and J. P. Lester. The flower bearers were James and George Richardson, Martin Lester, Cline and Roy Motley, Pattie Meadors, Francis [sic - Frances, sister of James and George] Richardson and Hattie Motley.

"Hattie" died Saturday, 25 April 1925, and was buried in the Shackelford Cemetery, Irisburg, Henry Co., Va. [sic - Oakwood Cemetery]
Less than a week after "Hattie's" death, her husband Jesse was shot to death.
