Jesse first came to Oklahoma during the 1893 Land Rush where he homesteaded near Waukomis. (His parents came to Oklahoma during the 1889 land rush.)

Jesse first married to Dovey Ella Coffey Feb 15 1899 in Sumner, Garfield County, Oklahoma. Of this union 5 known children were born: Levi Lee (1904-1987), Orpha James (1901-1975), Clarence Harvey (1902-1968), Leslie (1906-1971)and Loyd Jessie (1908-1996).

After moving to Oregon for Dovey's health, she died in 1909. Jesse returned to Oklahoma and buried Dovey there. By 1911 he was living in San Pedro, Mexico. By 1915 he was living in Ellicott, El Paso, Colorado where he ranched for a time before selling out and moving to Michigan and worked for the Ford Company. In Michigan he married at least 3 more times to: Pearl Boyd in 1918, Florence (Hills) McBeth in 1919, and May Cobernus in 1929.

He eventually returned to Colorado, residing in Calhan. Although he passed away in Colorado, Jesse's wish was to be buried next to his beloved Ella, so his body was shipped to Oklahoma for burial.
