Death Stricken While at Sunday School Convention -- Succumbs at Home of Son a Few Hours After -- An 89er.
Eli Robinson, an '89er and one of the best known of the early day settlers of this section passed to the great beyond at the home of his son, Earl Robinson, eight miles southwest of town, at five o'clock Sunday evening, October 24th. His death followed at attack of heart failure while in attendance at the Sunday school convention at Harmony church, where he was stricken as he left the building with his Bible under his arm after complaining to one of his neighbors of feeling ill. After leaving the building he sank to the ground unconscious. He recovered sufficiently to be taken to the home of his son, Earl Robinson, a mile and a quarter from the church, where he expired about five o'clock.
Funeral services were held from the home of his son, Earl, at two o'clock Monday afternoon, Oct. 25, Rev W.R. Hensen, of Enid, officiating. A large attendance of neighbors and friend were present. Many beautiful flowers mutely testified to the respect and love of the community for the departed one. Interment was made in the Hennessey Cemetery beside his wife, who passed away only two short months ago. The pall was borne by the following '89ers: Wm. Bugg, Fred Sieber, George Bailey, John Henthorn, R. Reynolds and J.L. Beshears.
The deceased was born June 17, 1843, in Calhoun County, Mo., and was 72 years, 4 months and 7 days of age at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Mary I. Moore on March 29, 1868, at Eddyville, Iowa. Of the twelve children, six boys and three girls survive, three daughters dying in infancy. the sons are: Edwin, of Golden, B.C.; Jesse of Elk City, Okla.; Fred, of Ft. Casey, Wash. and Earl, Rue and Willie of Hennessey. The daughters are : Mrs. C.T. McKeever, of Hennessey; Mrs. E.C. Bailey of Enid, and Mrs J. C. Tingley, of Anadarko. All were present at the funeral, with the exception of Jesse, Fred and Edwin who were unable to come. Deceased was also survived by a brother, Robert Robinson, of Creighton, Nebr., and a sister, Mrs. Sara Reed, of What Cheer, Iowa.
Mr. Robinson, with his wife, united with the Seven Day Adventist church in 1877, and in all the years since has been faithful to his Master's cause. He spent a great deal of his time reading the scriptures and was in town only last Saturday talking of his belief to his friends.
The family have the sympathy of many friends in this, their double bereavement, as the death of the mother so short a time ago makes the burden doubly hard.
