C. JEFFERSON SAUNDERS
C. Jefferson Saunders passed away at
the Chase Memorial Hospital in New Berlin,
Thursday, January 3, 1946 at 3:30 p.m.
Although not in the best of health for some
time his last illness was of short duration.
He was born in Unadilla September 30, 1862
son of Adrian and Mary Ann (Spencer) Saunders.
He was married September 30, 1886 to Miss
Nellie E Wright at Unadilla Center. Mrs. Saunders
died January 15, 1914
To this union was born five children, Mrs. Edna
Card, Garratsville; Lloyd E., Morris; Archie D.,
Gilbertsville; Orlo J., New York city; Glenn W.,
Garratsville, all of whom survive, with one brother,
Fred J. Saunders of Wells Bridge; eight grandchildren,
several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Saunders was an industrious farmer. While he
was a native of Unadilla, he spent most of his active
years in the town of Butternut.
Since retiring he had boarded in Garratsville or lived
with his children. He was widely known and held in
high esteem by all. The sympathy of many friends is
extended to the bereaved family.
Funeral was held Sunday from Moore's Funeral
home in Gilbertsville. The Rev. Ernest VanDerburg,
pastor of the Presbyterian church officiated and his
body was placed in the vault at Brookside cemetery for
burial beside his wife later.
