JEFFRIES

William Joseph Duane Jeffries, youngest son of Ed and Emma Jeffries, was born in Wayne County, Iowa April 20, 1928 and passed away July 7, 1986 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, at the age of 58 years, two months and 17 days, after ten months of suffering with cancer.

Bill graduated from Russell High School in 1945. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Louise Lindeman, Jan. 14, 1950. Two daughters came to bless this home, Melodee Kay and Nancy Jo.

In January, 1952, he entered the United States Army and in 1953 spent a tour of duty in Europe.

In 1961 he started his own business of road construction and soil conservation and has remained active in the same until the time of his death.

He was and active member of Faith United Methodist Church and served as building chairman for the construction of the new church building.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Carolyn; daughters, Melodee Jeffries of Chariton; and Nancy and husband Greg Throckmorton of Ankeny; one granddaughter, Jennifer Christine Throckmorton; one brother, James Jeffries, of Mountain Home, Ark.; three sisters, Lila Dixon of Russell; Donna Mason of Indianapolis, Ind.; and Bonnie Adamson of Saluda, N.C.; and many other relatives and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Clay Jeffries of Fullerton, Calif. and Vernon Jeffries of Chariton.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 1986, at the Fielding Funeral Home with the Rev. Tompsie Smith and the Rev. Wauneita McConnell conducting. Bearers were Dave Danner, Elwyn Mason, Vic Phippen, Quincy Robb and Gary Schumann. Interment was in the Russell Cemetery. Military service were conducted by Charley Clark Post # 308.
