JEFFRIES

Vernon Edward Jeffries, son of Ed and Emma Jeffries, was born in Wayne County, Ia. June 28, 1908 and departed this life August 4, 1976 at the Lucas County Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for four weeks.

He grew up in Wayne County graduating from Corydon High School in 1927. His entire life was spent in Wayne and Lucas counties. In 1949, he started the Jeffries Construction Company which is still actively engaged in business.

On October 7, 1933 he united in marriage with Neva Williams and four children came to bless this home.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father and one brother, Clay.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Neva; two sons, James of Chariton and Joe of Lucas; two daughters, Janice Christensen of Houston, Tex. and Carol Parrish of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughters-in-law, Rosemary Jeffries and Lois Jean Jeffries; sons-in-law, Ronald Christensen and Richard Parrish; and six grandchildren, Barbara, Debra and Michael Jeffries, Julie Christensen, Jeffrey Parrish and John Joseph Jeffries, who were a source of constant joy to him over the years.

He also leaves two brothers, James Jeffries of Mountain Home, Ark. and Bill Jeffries of Russell, Ia.; three sisters, Lela Dixon of Confidence, Ia., Donna Mason of Indianapolis, Ind. and Donna Adamson of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Wauneita McConnell at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 7, at the Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
