She was the daughter of Bedros and Sourpik Tekian, wife of Benjamin Kashishian and mother of 3 sons. Known as Louisa or sometimes Louise, while her birth dates vary widely in correct and appears as 1891 on the gravestone, a baptismal record confirms she was actually born in autumn 1888. Louise's father died in 1914 which resulted in them losing everything and then were uprooted by the Armenian Genocide of 1915. They fled to Constantinople and after World War I settled down the family had an eye to make a new life abroad. A marriage was arranged for Louisa in 1921 to a man named Benjamin Kashishian of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and for some reason the ship manifest lists her under the assumed name of Satenig Dikranian (perhaps filling the place of another person by that name?). Benjamin had a twin brother Rouben who also needed a wife, and so Louisa's sister Marie came in July 1922 to marry him. Thus Louisa and Marie married twin brothers and their children were double cousins. Louisa was a very short and petite woman.
