His original last name was Tekian but it was accidentally changed to Tekeyan when he arrived in France. He used the first name Pascal there, the French equivalent of Artin. When he first arrived there was little work to be found, so he worked with his brothers in salt mines in Alsace-Lorraine. After some years they settled in Paris. In the 1940s he retired to rural Sarcelles outside the city.
