Daniel was the son of Thomas (Falconer)Faulkner and Anna McPhun Faulkner. He came to the United States in May 1847. He married Janette Corbett on July 1, 1847 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They moved to Granville(now Milwaukee), Milwaukee County, Wisconsin shortly after marrying. Daniel bought an eighty acre farm and built an eleven room house for their growing family. He donated a part of the land for the Granville Station Elementary School. Daniel avoided military service in the Civil War because of having so many children and by paying $300 for a substitute to go in his place. In the 1860's $300 was a huge amount of money.When son, William had health problems, they moved to Petersburg, Virgina and then later to Ballard, Washington. The Northminister Presbyterian Church was founded in the parlor of their home.
Daniel and Janette were the parents of seven sons and five daughters.
