MILO MATHEWS

A memorial service will be held June 22 for Milo Merton Mathews of Eugene, who died June 16 at the age of 84.

He was born July 18, 1910 in Armstrong, Iowa, and moved to Jamestown, N.D., when he was a young boy. He moved to Oregon in 1938. He and his brother, Maynard, formed a construction company, Mathews Brothers Builders. The company built many homes in the River Road and Eugene area, as well as North Bend, Coos Bay and Brookings.

He married Vivian Getchell in Las Vegas, Nev., on Nov. 9, 1993. He was a member of the Eugene Eagles and Moose and Elks lodges. Mathews was an avid hunter and fisherman who also enjoyed yard work.

IN addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Jeannette Hoist of Springfield, Patricia Ness of Pleasant Hill, Beth Hall of Medford and Diane Goltein of Princeton, N.J.; three sons, Gene O’Brien of Importa, Kan., Phillip O’Brien of Springfield, Mo. and Robert Davis of Kona,, Hawaii; a half-brother, Dan Mathews of Fairmont, Mo.; two half-sisters, Arlene Farlow of Temple Hills, Md., and Valein Childers of Linden, Va.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Thursday’s service will be at 1 p.m. at the Eugene Elks Lodge on Centennial Blvd., Burial was at Lane Memorial Gardens. Chapel of Memories is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
