The funeral of Mrs. Ellen Bidwell, who died Monday after a lingering illness, was held yesterday from the Mills chapel, Rev. McDonald officiating. Interment was made in the A. F. & A. M. cemetery.
Mrs. Bidwell was born at Sutter's Fort, Calif., in 1846 and was 69 years of age at the time of death. She was one of the first white children born in California. When two months old she went to Oregon City, Oregon, with her parents. A few months later the family moved to Marion County, near Hubbard, where Mrs. Bidwell was married at the age of 19. She and her hasband lived three years in Portland, going from there to Douglas County, where they took up a homestead and lived for thirty years. They moved from there to Cottage Grove, Mr. Bidwell dying here in 1900. Seven children survive. They are: Wm. and John and Mrs. I. C. Ritchey of Cottage Grove, Mrs. Fred Bachert of Aurora, Ill., Mrs. Chas. Davis and Mrs. John Rice of Tacoma, Mrs. Ora Swearingen of Drain. Twenty three grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

Ellen married Myron Bidwell Jan. 29, 1865 in Clackamas Co., OR. Myron died in 1900. He may be buried in Cottage Grove Cemetery also.
