Wiley married Annie Louise Middleton, the oldest daughter of William Nelson Middleton, in Liberty County on April 21, 1918.

They had a son named Wiley Clayton Robson in 1919. When little Clayton was five months old, his mother died of a ruptured appendix, and her youngest sister, Willie Marie Middleton moved into the home to help with the infant. Two and a half years later, 32 year-old Wiley and 16 year-old Willie Marie were married.

Wiley died of a heart attack when Clayton was only nine years old, and presumably he was raised by his Aunt / Step-mother Willie Marie.

Clayton, while serving with the Marines in WWII, stepped on a land-mine and was killed on the last day of the battle of Iwo Jima.

Wiley's sister Lula married into the Middleton family as well. She married William Nelson "Boss" Middleton (Wiley's father-in-law) after his first wife died.
