MY VISIT TO GRANDMA ROBSON'S - Pearl Robson Berkihiser
Written in Summer 1976

I remember many times the first thing after I would get up was to go visit Grandma. If cold or hot weather, I would run away without any shoes on. I guess I was a nosey little person. I had to know what was going on.

It was my delight to know when Grandma was going to cook a cake because she always gave me the bowl to clean out -- which I like to do to this day.

I remember in the Spring, one would always see Grandama with a bucket of fertilizer in one hand, some seed or bulbs in the other, planting a few flowers here and there. She didn't do as we do -- have a bed of flowers, they were scattered here and there. It was my delight to carry the bucket of fertilizer for her, and put it in the hole she dug. One thing I do remember, she always had a row of Floxgloves down the front walk which was very colorful. Her other flowers didn't show off too much, they were too scattered. guess that is where I received my love for flowers and beautiful yard. They call me the "flower lady" up here.

Another thing I remember, as if it were yesterday -- they had a large front veranda -- and this day Aunt Inez, Aunt Ruth, Grandma and I were all sitting out on the veranda. Grandma told us that she never went before Granddad "nude", she always had on one of those little undershirts. Or she had on some kind of garment -- I know it is hard for some of our young folks to believe - this day of halter and shorts. I guess that is where I get some of my peculiarities, which I am proud.

I remember when she passed away. I was there in the room until after 11:00, I was sleepy. I went home -- at 12:00 they said she left this world. It was a large funeral. But I sure missed her. She was a lovely lady and a good Christian. She had a beautiful complexion. She lived a very quiet beautiful life. I remember she was very good to Mamma. She helped her as much as possible. She wore her hair in a ball on top of her head, and wore long full skirts and waists most of the time. She was avery neat petite woman.
