Mrs. Felix Demanade died at the family residence in this city Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. of typhoid fever, aged 50 years. Mrs. Demanade was Miss Mattie Betts and was married to Mr. Felix Demanade in 1881 in Arcola, Texas. They moved to Lafayette about twenty-five years ago, but had resided at Jeanerette for a short time previous to coming to this city. Mrs. Demanade was a devoted member of the Methodist church and a Consistent Christian. She taught a class in the Methodist Sunday School and also a class of Bible students and was president of the Home Mission Society. She was president of the Woman's Civic League and vice-president of the Home Charity Association of which she was an active and useful member. Mrs. Demanade possessed many noble qualities and was of a most kind and charitable disposition and the poor have lost in her a great helper and friend. Her husband and one son survive her and both have the sympathy of the entire community in their great loss.
The funeral took place from the family residence at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, and was attended by a large number of friends. Services were conducted at the home and Protestant cemetery, where interment took place, by Revs. A.F. Vaughan, Chas. Wier and C.A. Sattle, the present and former pastors of the local Methodist church. The pall bearers were Messrs. Harold Demanade, Paul Beraud,C.D. Caffery, O.B. Hopkins, Drs. N. P. moss and A.R. Trahan.
