Obit for Houston Betts:
Houston Betts, 69 years of age, a former peace officer and until recently justice of the peace of precinct number one, died at his home in this city at 5:30 o'clock Saturday morning, following a lingering illness which had forced him to confinement for the past several months.
Funeral services were held at the residence of the deceased Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Rev. F. D. Dawson, pastor of the first Methodist church of this city, officiating. Interment followed in Crockett cemetery.
Mr. Betts, a kindly and generous man, always fair in his dealings, was possessed of a large host of friends not only in Crockett and Houston county but in Leon county, where he was born, as well. He served as constable for four years here and later became justice of the peace, a position which he held for five consecutive years. He recently resigned the latter office because of his failing health.
The deceased was a relative of General Sam Houston, famous Texas hero, from whom he received his name. He was born in Leon County on September 15, 1866 and lived there until 1909, at which time he moved to Crockett, where he had lived continuously for the past twenty-six years.
He was a member of the Methodist church, having united with that denomination on May 5, 1911, and being received by Rev. George W. Davis. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and that order had charge of the services at the graveside.
Surviving the deceased are the widow, Mrs. Minnie Betts, of this city; three sons, Carl of Guy's Store, Leon county; Elbert of Vernon, and Frank of Los Angeles, California; one brother, J. F. Betts of Meridian, Mississippi; two sisters, Mrs. Willie Ratzburg of Mt. Clair, New Jersey, and Mrs. John Rumbley of Drewry, Alabama.
Active pallbearers were W. H. Long, Leonard Arnold, Jim Hazlett, F. M. Boone, John A. Long, P. D. Austin, T. W. Goolsbee and H. A. Sims.

Thanks for your help.
