INDIAN ORCHARD - Verla M. (Gonyea) Gassnola, 80, of Indian Orchard, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 in Mercy Medical Center, Springfield. Born in upstate New York and a resident of Indian Orchard for much of her life, she was the daughter of the late James and Georgianna Gonyea. Verla was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and dedicated homemaker to her family. She was also a communicant of St. Jude Church of Indian Orchard. She is survived by two sons, Norman A. Gassnola and his wife Kathleen of Monson, Donald J. Gassnola and his wife Cheryl of Springfield; a daughter, Joanne Gow of Ludlow; two brothers, James Gonyea of Westfield; Leonard Gonyea of Ludlow; a sister, Gladys Polypow of Ludlow; six grandchildren, Lawrence Caputo, Jr., Kimberly Caputo, Nicholas Gassnola, Kristina Gassnola, Sarah Gassnola, Kevin Gassnola; and two great grandchildren, Katrina Caputo and Lauren Gassnola. Verla was predeceased by her husband, Antonio D. Gassnola, who died in 1990. The funeral will be Saturday morning from the Ratell Funeral Home 200 Main St., Indian Orchard at 8 a.m. followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Jude Church, 221 Main St., Indian Orchard at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Indian Orchard.
