Ella was the daughter of Savannah Cordelia Gainey and James Louis Alexander. She married Floyd Chambers Burks, son of George Robert Burks and 1. Melissa Jane Boyett, on Sept. 1, 1923 in Quitman, Jackson Parish, Louisiana. Children: Olan Cecil Burks, Alma Lavada Burks (Head, Worthington), Chester Eugene Burks, Barney Lee Burks and Floyd Edward Burks.

Services for Ella B. Burks, 94, of West Monroe, LA, were held Nov. 28 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Perry Lassiter and Ron Lowe officiating. Burial followed at the Mt. Olive East Cemetery. Mrs. Burks died Nov. 26, 2001 at Glenwood Medical Center after a long illness. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Burks was preceded in death by three sons, one grandson, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Edward Burks of Lufkin, Texas; a daughter, Lavada Worthington of West Monroe; 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 30 great-great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.
