CHESAPEAKE — Mrs. Ruth Leigh Merrell Foxwell, 57, of 208 Woodford Drive, Great Bridge, died Monday in a Norfolk hospital after a long illness.

A native of North Carolina, she lived in the Chesapeake area 30 years. She was a daughter of the late Isaac and Mrs. Paulina Woodhouse Merrell and the wife of Burnell Earldon Foxwell.

She was a member of Great Bridge Baptist Church.

Besides her husband, surviving are a son, Bobby B. Foxwell of Chesapeake; a daughter, Mrs. Billie Rosalie Smith of Albuquerque, N.M.; five brothers, William Merrell of Portsmouth, Roy Merrell of Bertha, N.C., Curtis Merrell of New Bern, N.C., and Tillman Merrell and Elmer Merrell of Poplar Branch, N.C.; four sisters, Lessie Pugh of Norfolk, Mrs. Clara Armstrong of Palo Alto, Calif., Mrs. Marie Mills of Spokane, Wash., and Mrs. Mary Franssen of Portland, Ore.; and six grandchildren.

The body will be taken from Twiford Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge, to Great Bridge Baptist Church for a funeral service Thursday at 3 p.m. by the Rev. W.A. Richardson. The body will be in the church at 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens, Great Bridge.
