Lessie Merrell Pugh, 96, formerly of Chesapeake, VA died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Riverpoint Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in New Bern, NC. A native of Currituck County, she was born November 6, 1921 in Grandy to the late Issac Holly Merrell and Paulina Woodhouse Merrell and was the widow of Vernon Pugh, Sr.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Darren of Maryland and Jason of Tennessee; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Henderson of Mountain View, CA and Mary Franssen of Des Moines, WA. She was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Pugh, Jr.; and five brothers, William Merrell, Tilman Merrell, Elmer Merrell and Roy Merrell, and Curtis Merrell; and two sisters, Clara and Ruth.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery.
