Marilyn Joyce Hallquist of Lakewood, formerly of Perrysburg, died unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, in WCA Hospital.
She was born in Jamestown, a daughter of Carl and Selma Nelson Hallquist.
Miss Hallquist graduated from Jamestown High School and furthered her education in Buffalo, where she earned a nursing degree. She retired as a nurse/supervisor from the former Gowanda State Hospital with more than 30 years of dedicated service.
Fondly known as ''Goosie,'' ''Holly'' and ''Auntie M,'' she was a very hard-working and self-sufficient individual who proved to have a great knowledge of a vast number of subjects. Also, she proudly spent many years breeding, raising and showing St. Bernard dogs.
Miss Hallquist was a communicant of Lutheran churches.
Surviving are two sisters, Sally Pacheco of Jamestown and Mary Ann Cygan of Collins, N.Y., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by nine sisters: Norma Rivera, Isabel Blixt, Pauline Hitchcock, Lois Horan, Betty Palen, Donna Horan, Dorothy Swanson, Doris Carlson and Phyllis Dupler, and four brothers: Allen, Roger, Merle and Robert Hallquist.
Miss Hallquist will always be remembered for her bountiful generosity, unstoppable humor, finesse and an unending love of animals, the great outdoors and of nature.
