From Holland St. John- "Annette was the daughter of Joseph and Caroline (Freeman) Bradshaw and was born September 1, 1851 on the family farm located near the hamlet of Volga City, Sperry Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She had eleven brothers and sisters, all but the oldest sisters having been born in Clayton County. Annette spent her childhood years here and in the fall of 1867 she married Charles Barber. Very little is known about Charles and his family. About three months after her marriage, she was fitting a new calico dress near a fireplace when her clothing caught fire and burned her so badly that she lived only three days. She died December 29, 1867. She was only sixteen years of age at the time of the accident. She is buried in the Garretson Cemetery located near Volga City, Iowa. A number of the Bradshaw family including her father and several siblings are also interred here."
