From Holland St.John - "Flmena was born December 2, 1853 on the family farm located near the town of Volga City, Sperry Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Joseph and Caroline (Freeman) Bradshaw. Elmena was named in honor of her mother's sister Elmena Freeman (who married my great grandfather Nehemiah St John). She had eleven brothers and sisters. Misfortune struck Elmena when she was less than two years of age. She died August 31, 1855 at the age of twenty months of "brain fever" and is buried in the Garretson Cemetery near Volga in Sperry Township, Clayton County, Iowa. Her father and two of her brothers are also interred here."
