Jacob Howard Becker was born in Robeson Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania 24 May 1849. He was the only child of Jacob and Margaret Amelia (Dickinson) Becker. His mother died In June 1849, and his father always blamed him for her death. The family moved to Chicago, Illinois where his father owned a hotel @ 181 Lake. On 16 October 1878 Jacob married Catherine Burke in his father's hotel. The couple had 6 children - 4 daughters survived to adulthood. Jacob died in King County, Washington while living with his daughter and son-in-law (Frances Cornelius) and his body was transported to the Seim family Cemetery in Shadehill, Perkins County, South Dakota for burial next to his wife, Catherine.
