B. R. Hinman, Civil War veteran, passed away at his home on South Main St., Friday morning, March 4, after a lingering Illness.
Mr. Hinman was born in Youngstown, N. Y., Jan. 10, 1843. On the 14th of May, 1861, he enlisted in Co. D., 13th New York Volunteer Inf. and was discharged June 5, 1862, on complaint of his mother, because of his youth and the fact that he was her only support. On Oct. 17, 1862, he ran away from home and again enlisted, this time under the name of Byron Randall in Company A, 151st N. Y. Volunteer Inf. and was discharged from service June 26. 1865. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Gettysburg and spent three months in prison.
On Feb. 28, 1865, he was united in marriage to Rose Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Seth Miller of Mortons Corners. To this union seven children were born, three of whom survive, H. G. Hinman and Mrs. Frank Sikes, Portville and Mrs. W. A. Andrews, Rochester. He is also survived by his wife.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at the home, Rev. Burnside Steen officiating. Interment was in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
Among those from out of town here to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Andrews of Rochester; Mrs. C. Brazee and daughter of Bullis Mills, Mrs. Dorsen of Olean and Irvin Probert of Farmers Valley.
