The obituary for Mrs. Martha E. Bence, widow of J. Q. Bence, stated that she had died Feb. 27, 1912 at her home in Whitley township. She was born on Sand Creek, Apr. 23, 1843, nee Pate. Mr. Bence died Feb 1896. Surviving were sons, Will A., Elmer G., and Claude; and daughters, Mrs. Sarah Sargent, Mrs. Lou [Theodore] Snyder and Mrs. Maude [Oscar] Bundy. Also surviving was a half-brother, George W. Edwards of KS, plus 15 grandchildren. Burial at Whitfield Cemetery. Windsor Gazette - 29 Feb 1912
