James Q. Bence died at his home in Whitley township Monday of typhoid fever. Funeral and burial services were held at the Whitfield church Tuesday afternoon, Elder G. T. Bridges being in charge. Mr. Bence, who was a native of Ohio, was nearly 57 years old. He had lived on the farm on which he died about 30 years. He married Martha Pate about 35 years ago. She with nine children, four of whom are married, is left. His was the first death in the family. Mr. Bence was a well-to-do farmer and stock raiser and enjoyed a wide acquaintance throughout this part of the state. He was a good citizen and neighbor and a home-loving man.
