Axel G. Carlson is one of three Carlson brothers who immigrate from Sweden to the U.S. and Minnesota at about the turn of the century. Not long after arriving, Axel Carlson marries Augusta Bengtson. They have 4 kids together and raise a Bengtson niece from infancy. After the death of his first wife in 1950, Axel remarries Bertha Jordahl in 1951. Axel Carlson lives another 20 years, dying at age 88 in 1971.

Axel Gotfred Carlson, age 88, passed way at the Madison Lutheran Home on June 10, 1971, at 11:25 p.m. He had been ill for quite some time.
Axel was born in Sweden 88 years, 5 months and 18 days previous to his death, to John and Anna Carlson.
He was married in Dawson, March 10, 1903 to Augusta Benetson (sic-really 1905 and Bengtson). To this union were born 4 children namely: Adolph Carlson, Fingal Carlson, Mrs. Edith Anderson, Hilder (Mrs. Algot Knudson) Amery, Wis., Violet Bengtson at the age of 5 days was raised in this home, as a member of this family. She is now Mrs. Burton Bredesen of Chester, Montana. Mrs. Carlson passed away on Feb. 13, 1950.
On June 14, 1951 he was married to Bertha Jordahl who also preceded him in death on August 24, 1966.
Besides his children he also leaves a host of relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held for Mr. Carlson at the Dawson Covenant Church at 10 a.m., Monday June 14th with Rev. Lester Carlson officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Pearson sang a duet and the organist was Mrs. Robert Hanson. Casketbearers were Kenneth, Palmer, Alvis, James, Milton and Richard Anderson. Internment was in the Covenant Church cemetery. Blessed will be his memory.
