The Marriage of Two Popular Young People at Chapel Hill--The Ceremony in the Presbyterian Church
Correspondence of the Observer.
CHAPEL HILL, Dec. 24--This Christmas eve in Chapel Hill will be long remembered, for it was the happy wedding day of Miss Margaret Hendon and Mr. J. V. Lewis. At 3:30 in the afternoon the bridal party repaired to the Presbyterian church, which had been beautifully decorated with holly, palms and evergreens, and which was filled to overflowing with an expectant crowd of relatives and friends.
Prof. Harrington played that sweetest of all wedding marches, Lohengrin, and the ushers, Messrs. D. R. Bryson, B. Wyche, J. Lentz and Fred Patterson, marching up the centre aisle, took their places on each side of the nuptial bower.
Following them came Miss Mattie May Faucette, maid of honor, with the groom's best man, Mr. R. M. Davis; Miss Floy Martin with Mr. Harlee McCall, and lastly Mr. J. Volney Lewis and his betrothed, Miss Margaret Hendon.
The ceremony was not long, and Rev. Mr. Currie, the pastor, pronounced them man and wife.
With many fond adieus the bride and groom left on the 4 o'clock train for their future home in the Queen City.
In Mr. Lewis' happy fortune Chapel Hill loses one of her most popular daughters, esteemed alike by young and old, and needless to say, her place will be hard to fill.
Mr. Lewis graduated at the University in '90 with distinction, and since that time has held an important position with the State Geological Survey corps of North Carolina with headquarters in Chapel Hill, and his friends here and throughout the State, numbering scores, congratulate him on his Christmas tide bliss.
