He was a farmer and stockman in Ellis and Russell counties. He moved to Hays in 1991 from Emmeram. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; their children, Margaret Schmidt and her husband, Vance Carlson, Hays, Lawrence Brungardt Jr., Gorham, Samuel Brungardt and his partner, Richard Greene, St. Paul, Minn., Jackie Prickett and her husband, Joe, Clearwater; a brother, Donald Brungardt and his wife, Truse, Wichita; two sisters, Clesta Herman, Wichita, and Darlene Holzmeister and her husband, Edwin, Hays; a sister-in-law, Maude Brungardt, Pratt; 12 grandchildren, seven step grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 19 step great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Roy Brungardt, four brothers, Leo, George, Thomas and James Brungardt, and a sister, Lioba Weigel.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Emmeram. A vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Cline's Mortuary of Hays. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, all at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to Sacred Heart Cemetery Fund or Masses.
