KINGSLAND MAN SUCCUMBS OF HIS INJURIES

Monday, May 13, 1935

HOT SPRINGS, Ark., — Houston Edward Thompson, 38, a World War I veteran, died here Saturday, after being admitted last Thursday to the Army & Navy General Hospital suffering from severe injuries in an accident Wednesday at Kingsland.

The accident occurred at dusk on the road toward New Edinburg just south of the rail tracks in Kingsland when a loaded logging truck collided with Houston's mule-driven wagon loaded with logs headed for the mill.

The violent collision threw him from the wagon, critically injuring him under the logs and animals. He was rushed overnight to the hospital in Hot Springs but doctors were not able to save him.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Birdie Bell Wilson Thompson, his mother, Ida Josephine Thompson, and a brother, George Thompson.

He is survived by his widow, Birdie Mae Rodgers Thompson; his father, John Thompson; two sons, Edd Thompson and two-week old baby boy; three daughters, Mable Thompson, Lucille Thompson and Lillie Belle Thompson, all of Kingsland; five brothers, and four sisters. Burial will be in Smith-Morgan Cemetery just south of Kingsland
