Mary Agnes "Aggie" Abernathy-Preuit is the daughter of Rev. James Buckner Abernathy and Mary Agnes Ketsterson-Abernathy. Aggie's mother died about a week after her birth. Aggie was married to James Alexander Preuit on January 12, 1882. While living in Pittsburg Texas in 1889, they cared for a six month old baby girl named Minnie Myrtle Colwell shortly after the infant's biological mother Nancy Elizabeth "Lizzie" Blalock-Colwell had died. When Minnie was 24 months old, Minnie's biological father agreed to an adoption because he was unable to care for the infant. On October 4, 1890, the Preuit's formalized the adoption in Camp County, Texas. They were wonderful parents and Minnie adored and loved them very much. They had no other children. Mary Agnes (Aggie) Abernathy-Preuit is the younger sister to the D.H. (David Harper) Abernathy who built the "Abernathy House" in Pittsburg, TX. David Harper Abernathy died in 1910.
