"Miss Ordway, Former City Teacher, Dies
Miss Mabel H. Ordway, 81, 609 State Street., a retired teacher, died Tuesday afternoon at Evangelical Hospital where she had been a patient since June. She had been in failing health for a number of years.
She was born Nov. 8, 1881, near Union, daughter of George B. and Ellen Bowers Ordway, and was reared in this community. She was graduated from Marshalltown High School about 1900 and taught in the city schools for 35 years.
Miss Ordway was a member of First Congregational Church and the Covenant Daughters.
Surviving are a brother, A.B. Ordway of Piedmont, Calif., one niece, and one nephew. Her parents and one sister preceded her in death.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pursel-Davis Memorial Chapel with the Rev. John H. Alexander in charge. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. "
